A R500 million fund to assist entrepreneurs who want to establish and grow spaza shops. Part of government efforts to support the informal retail sector and township economy.

Who qualifies

Open to informal and formal spaza shop operators. Formal registration is not strictly required. Full application criteria to be confirmed through official government channels. Note: as of May 2026, disbursement has been very limited - only a small fraction of the R500 million total fund has been paid out due to verification delays. Verify current status through official DSBD channels before applying.
